Wonders of the world
Chichen Itza is itself a wonder of the world… It’s preciseness, exactness, how it tells the history of several centuries and several peoples, its vastness (you could literally spend a day and still not see everything) and how well preserved it is.
But a wonder to me was the hundreds, and I do mean HUNDREDS, of peddlers lined before the entrance, around the ruins, and up the Mayan roads. All of whom are selling the exact same things.
There were blankets, umbrellas, hand carved wood masks, silver, glass cuts, Mayan calendars and the only thing distinguishing one from the next were the chants the peddlers were saying: “Good price for you.” “Almost Free.” And my personal favorite: “Blue Light Special.”
It left me wondering... Is that a credit to branding? Or just an embarrassment to US shoppers?!?
